Polysics "I My Me Mine", Dir: Yuichi Kodama. 2005

Ah... something not so new (even a bit old) but that made me feel better today.

The Wombats "Let's Dance to Joy Division", Dir: ?, 2007

This isn't a wow music video, nothing really new visually or conceptually, but there's not much new at the moment, and it's not that bad either, so here you go.

Peter Bjorn & Jhon "Young Folks", Dir: Niklas Rissler/ForeignArtists, 2007

Directed by Niklas Rissler it is based on the work of illustrator Graham Samuels. Great song with guest Victoria Bergsman of the Concretes. If you want to see them live they are playing at Forum next week.

Mum 'Rhubarbidoo', Dir: Overture, 2007

Jason Malcolm Brown and Aya Yamasaki Brown are Overture, a duo of illustrators based in Japan. Their work is reminiscent of 70's children tv/books and European and Japanses comic book artists of the same periode, in terms of style and colours and that's probably why I liked the nostalgic side to it. At the same time their illustration work is very contemporary.

Martin Klimas, Photographer, 2007

Martin Klimas is a wonderful specialised photographer. In this series he has used ceramic figurines which he drops from above, the camera/lighting is triggered by the sound of the impact. The result comes randomly to life to amazing effect.

WKTokyoLab Re-Invention, Dir: Amautalab, 2007

Not something new new, as it is a few month old now, but this little clip in stop motion by Amautalab is still a really good piece of work that deserves to be part of the collection.

Katerine 'Excuse Moi', Dir: Petra Mrzyk and Jean François Moriceau, 2007

I'll let the non-French speaking look into how the lyrics translate. But this is a really lovely music video directed by Parisian artist duo Petra Mrzyk and Jean-François Moriceau. Both universes Katerine's own as much as theirs, simple line hand-drawn and quite sassy and sexy in its topics, was well suited for this song.

'Frank Kafka Ein Landarzt', Koji Yamamura, 2007

Director Koji Yamamura's latest short film is doing the round of the festivals and winning awards. Not surprising when you have a look at the trailer as the film looks extremely beautiful and complex. Hopefully soon to be shown in London.

PS2, Dir: Yumiko Ito, 2007

Really fun little commercial from Japan directed by Yumiko Ito, a more stylised take on the ball effect.

Emily Haines & Soft Skeleton 'Our Hell', Dir: Jaron Albertin, 2007

First I really like the song itself. Then the music video is beautifully made and lit on negative/thermic camera, where they have created some really intriguing visuals (the only thing I'm not sure about is the clown though). Anyway this visually stands out and they have achieved something very interesting.

The Bees 'Who Cares', Dir: Chris Hopewell, 2007

I like The Bees.... and it's a pleasant enough music video

Yosuke Ueno, Painter, Japan

Yosuke Ueno's work, mainly exhibited in Tokyo and LA, is a colourful mix of characters inspired by street culture, part of a generation of artists influenced by graffitis, video games and comic books as much as classical art.
